Ahhh, it’s that crazy busy time that I can barely breath some days – for which I’m very thankful for I must say! I want to thank my super sweet and patient client Amanda, whom I’m posting this sneak peek for. She’s been waiting for awhile now… knowing that I have been working on getting out cards for everyone who needs them. Almost all of which will be ready for pick up tomorrow or Sunday, whoooo!
It’s also nice to update my very neglected blog and facebook page with some fresh images. More to come soon…. I’m nearly done with editing holiday sessions and orders and am looking forward to spending some time with my family and enjoy the holidays. :) Hopefully more time to post a few of the recent sessions I’ve been busy with. Every one of my clients has been great this year!

Fall is here, and the recent weather is lending to me getting used to the idea. :)
And so for what it’s worth, it’s time for a few things to mention. First, something I’m not ready to even TALK ABOUT being that it’s still September, LOL (except I did post one thing below, much shame, but I have to get us ready for this and I’d much rather see a blog post than Halloween candy in the supermarket during September) But one must plan ahead! It’s National Costume Swap Day! I have registered at www.NationalCostumeSwapDay.com – my swap to be held at the studio from 10:30 – 1:30pm on October 8th. It’s coming right up actually, so please come and join us and swap out last years costume for a “new” one this year. Everyone who participates in my swap AND the one at Orange Blossom Society in Redmond WA, will get a free portrait in his or her new costume! Yay! Last year was super fun, and I looooved taking the kids portraits in their costumes. They really enjoyed it. I’ll be sending out e-cards and a portrait of each child will be available free of charge. I’ll have some activities planned too!

Take a moment to RSVP by emailing Holli at holli@hollidunn.com – or on facebook, I have an invite going – https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=205283836202868 Costume drop off will be the week prior (Oct 1st-7th) to the event at Holli Dunn’s studio in Bellevue.

I met the mom of these stunning girls about 7 or 8 years ago, when we first moved here. Our kids were in playgroup together and it’s been so long since we caught up now that our daughters are in school and so busy. WOW. I’m so stunned by how beautiful they have become and so big too! I loved seeing you again, K! Thanks for bringing them in for a portrait session!

Kermit was wrong. It is easy being green [on Halloween]!

Just make choices that are people-healthy, animal-friendly and Earth-conscious.
We‘ll show you how with these 10 simple steps:
- Plan ahead to avoid last-minute shopping which often limits your choices.
- When it comes to costumes and décor—reuse, borrow, swap, purchase used or do-it-yourself.
- Treat bags can be anything! For extra fun, match the bag to the costume using something you already own. Here are some ideas: purses, flower pots (cover the hole), cloth sacks, backpacks, lunchboxes.
- Choose healthier treats. Take baby steps with organic candy and honey sticks, two child-favored choices. (Honey is not for children under two years of two).
- Choose fun treasures instead of conventional sweets. Think of the treasures your child collects in her pockets—pretty rocks, coins, etc.
- If you‘re giving a party, avoid disposables including napkins, plates, cups, tablecloths and other décor.
- Walk from house to house instead of driving.
- Compost pumpkins and any other food, including leftover candy.
- Collect candy wrappers and help your kids turn them into gift items like purses, bracelets and picture frames. Find directions on the internet.
- Avoid purchasing any treats made with palm oil.

Valentines day is quickly approaching and after working with this sweet family I can see just how much love this family has for each other…… all the way to the moon and back! (and more, of course!)
Little {J} and {M} laughed together and had a good time during the session! Isn’t this sooo sweet?

Thank you Julie and Aaron! It was fun seeing you again! :) ~Holli

Last week I was blessed with the opportunity to participate with Green Halloween at the Whole Foods, Bellevue store to promote a healthier and eek-o friendly Halloween for our children!! I took fall pictures of kids as they visited the store. The produce department offers pretty amazing fall color with all the fruits and vegetables. (It was POURING rain that day so the original plan to be outside with the pumpkins didn’t work out). I also provided a fun eco-friendly pirate themed craft for the kids. We made these out of leather upholstery samples all repurposed for a craft!! I have to say that it took a little thought to figure out what to make out of little 4×6 pieces of leather and Corey from Green Halloween gave me the perfect idea of Pirate Eye Patches, and then I added in Pirate Bracelets and little Treasure Pouches too!
Check out Corey and Lynn from Green Halloween hard at work! And I love seeing the photography I did blown up huge on their banners! Look at that cutie!!
What is Green Halloween? Be sure to check out their website for tips on being green, offering healthy alternatives for our children, and products safe for the enviroment at www.greenhalloween.org.
Here are a few tips from their “Getting Started” section:
- Make a big deal of your child’s costume – getting dressed, taking pictures, etc.
- Have a neighborhood party and forgo trick-or-treating all together. Ask your child’s school to consider making their Halloween celebration green as well.
- Have a charity-themed party. Instead of giving out prizes for games, allow children to pick from a list of charities and make a donation in their name.
- Have a Halloween gratitude party. Deliver handmade cards to your local farmer and take a tour of his/her field. Arrange before hand for each child to bring a mini pumpkin home.
- Talk to your neighbors about what they will be giving away in advance. One option is to trick-or-treat only at homes where you know Green Halloween items will be passed out.
- Show your Green by displaying your own Green Halloween sign and ask your Green Halloween neighbors to do the same. Turn looking for the signs into a hunt for treasures. The Green Halloween sign on your own door will announce to trick-or-treaters that they’re in for a great surprise!
- Give kids a full, healthy meal before they go out trick-or-treating so they are not hungry.
- Talk to your kids about what is in candy and why it is not healthy. Ask them to come up with creative, kid and Earth-friendly alternatives that your own family can hand out and feel good about.
- When trick-or-treaters come to your door, shout, “Happy Hallo-green!!!
And if your child does collection candy:
- Invite the Halloween Fairy to come to your home. Tell you child a story, or use our book to talk about how the Halloween fairy turns candy into magic fairy dust and so needs as much candy as she can get her hands on. Explain that if a child leaves his bag of candy outside on the porch, the fairy will gladly come to take the candy, and because she will be so grateful for the help with her fairy-dust-making, she’ll leave in the candy’s place a very special gift. Some parents make the exchange while their child is brushing their teeth, others wait until their child is asleep. Either way, make a big deal of it! Act surprised! You may also want to consider letting your child keep a small amount of candy and leaving the rest out for the fairy. Please don’t donate your leftover sweets to charity, though. Other people’s kids don’t need the candy either.
- Have a candy trade: let your kids trade their candy towards other little gifts or give them a “pumpkin point” for each piece of candy they collect. Use pumpkin points to “buy” a toy or do a special activity with your child.
- Let them choose a limited amount of candy to eat (for example, one piece for each year your child is old). In many cities, the leftover candy can be recycled and turned into compost! Just be sure to remove candy from its wrapper first.
*We are big fans of the Candy Fairy at my own house!
